The Alternative Literary and Fine Arts Magazine

Entries will be collected and judged.

Deadline for entries of poetry, short stories, art and photography. Entries should be submitted to the Arts, Languages and Literature Division (G138) and TheAlternative@dcccd.edu. Because The Alternative is student-centered, the division is asking instructors to encourage all students to participate.

April 16-20, 2012

Selected entries will be published in The Alternative, which will be distributed at the Literary and Fine Arts Festival.

General Eligibility

Contestant must be a current student enrolled for credit in Eastfield College. Each entry must be accompanied by a signed submission form. Campus coordinator must verify academic enrollment. Entries must be original works written during the student's enrollment in credit courses at the college. By submitting, you represent and warrant that the materials do not infringe any copyright, trademark, property rights, rights of privacy or publicity of any person, or any other right of any third party and that you have the full and unrestricted right to submit  the material to The Alternative.

Submission Guidelines

Written entries must be submitted in paper format and electronically. Poems must not exceed 50 lines; fiction must not exceed 1,300 words. Visual Art entries must be electronically submitted to TheAlternative@dcccd.edu in TIFF or JPG format at 300 DPI with the following subject line: Alternative Art Submission-Student Name. Multiple entries are accepted. There is no charge to enter.

Judging Process 

Entries will be chosen by jury. The jury’s decision is final and non-negotiable. Entrants whose work is accepted for publication in The Alternative will be notified by email.
