The Writing Center - Online Submissions

If you’d like to submit questions or papers for review, please send them to 4WritingTutors@dcccd.edu. Please allow 2 business days for a response. In your email, include the following information:

  • Your name
  • Name of your instructor
  • Class information (ENGL1301, PSYC 2301, EDUC 1300, BIOL 1406, etc.)
  • Type of class (face-to-face, online, self-paced class)
  • Specifics on the assignment (Reaction paper using MLA format; Annotated Bibliography in APA format, etc.). You can attach the instructor’s assignment sheet and rubric.
  • What specifically you’d like a tutor to assist you with at this time:
    • Clarification of assignment specifics
    • Thesis/claim statement
    • Formatting (margins, citations, etc.)
    • Organization (of paragraph, of paper, of ideas, etc.)
    • Development (details, analysis, incorporating quotes, etc.)
    • Grammar/Mechanics (commas, fragments, awkward wording, etc.)
    • Hours of operation/schedules
    • Other questions about the campus, Writing Center, services, etc.

The more specific students are with their requests, the easier it will be for tutors to respond.
What tutors will not do:

  • We cannot fix your paper or do line-by-line editing. Our job is to help students learn the skills to be successful. Therefore, tutors guide students and offer suggestions. The assignment still belongs to the student—as does the grade.
  • We will not discuss what grade the paper may be. We are not the instructors, and we cannot assign grades or guess about your instructor’s requirements or grading process. We can discuss if the paper has a clear thesis/claim statement, clear organization, reasonable details and analysis, and good standard grammar.

What tutors will do:

  • We will make reasonable suggestions and guide students to write better, including providing additional resources (handouts, web links, podcasts, etc.).
  • We will make suggestions based on our understanding of the assignment.
  • We may encourage a student to visit the Writing Center to talk face to face with a tutor for clarification.
  • We may encourage a student to talk to the instructor for clarification of an assignment.
