Eastfield Sluggers Sign with Texas Universities
Eastfield College Head Baseball Coach Michael Martin announced recently that three of his players have signed scholarship agreements during the NCAA’s early signing period. Three sophomore players, Enrique Lozano, Zack Love and Steven Hill, announced their intentions late last week and all have formally signed NCAA national letters of intent. Lozano chose St. Edwards’s University in Austin, Texas, while Love and Hill both chose Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

A Garland native and 2003 Metro Athletic Conference All Conference Player, Lozano said he’s looking forward to playing for St. Edward’s. He chose the Division II program after meeting the coaches and team members. “It seems like a good all-around community,” said Lozano of the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers.“ The school has only about 5,000 students, and they say you eventually will meet all of the other students.” He continued, saying that the University of Texas at Arlington also considered him, but he really wanted to get a little further away from home for a little while. Lozano was pleased with the fact that he will get an excellent private school education without paying the private school price.

“Stephen F. Austin was my first choice, and they made me the best offer,” said Love, a sophomore outfielder from McKinney. “I think the program is going to be outstanding and the best fit for me. 2006 will be their (SFA) year back; they haven’t had a program there in 10 years. Donnie Watson wants to come out and make history.” Love is excited about being a part of that effort.

Austin, toured the school and met the coaches before he made the decision that SFA is where he wants to be. Hill added that he had been working with Eastfield Assistant Baseball Coach Tim Meadows and had looked at Texas Christian University and the UTA; ultimately he chose SFA. Hill said that the attitudes and coaching style seemed to be much like those at Eastfield. “They (the coaches) work hard to win and are there to discipline the students.”

Eastfield’s Martin is very pleased with the choices his players have made. “It’s great that they signed early. In the spring, they can go out and play baseball without the added pressure of worrying about signing with a four-year program. These guys will be key players to our success in the spring. We have tried to instill in these young men the ideas that hard work and perseverance pay off. This is a great example for our entire program of that dedication.”

Renovation of Harvester Field
The Eastfield College Baseball Program and Head Coach Michael Martin are pleased to announce that the seating at Harvester Field is in the process of complete renovation. "Our seating at Harvester Field is getting a much needed face lift. Our old stands were out-dated, and we are happy to announce that we will be re-doing the whole thing,'" noted Martin. The project is in its beginning stages, and that means there is currently no seating available for fans. Coach Martin added, "We are sorry for the inconvienence to our fans, but we are excited about what we will have when this project is completed." All fans attending games at Harvester Field on the campus of Eastfield College are urged to bring seats for games in the near future.
