Welcome and Introductions
The Construction Team council convened on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 9:00a.m. Dr. Lindle Grigsby welcomed the members. Jay Emery was introduced from the Eastfield College Et Cetera Newspaper, and Lisa Backman was introduced as a new member of the project management team replacing Scott Sweeley.
Learning Studios
Dustin Moore with Rogers-O’Brien reported that they are in the process of drilling the last pier. They anticipate all piers will be complete by next week. The plumbing and electrical work on the west side is being installed. Three of the six partitions for the library restrooms have been installed. There will be additional work done on the women’s restrooms.
The slab on the west end elevation will be poured late February or early March 2008. The steel girders will be erected approximately mid to late March 2008. Dustin Moore reported they are working with John Criswell and the security company on the compatibility of the equipment bid for the project and the equipment currently installed at EFC.
Parent Child Study Center Design
Johnny Booth - Booth Architects and Dan Arrowood with HKS commented on the following: The Parent Child Study Center design development phase of the drawings have been finalized. Rogers-O’Brien will review the drawings and provide a synopsis of their recommendations. The landscape architect provided a detailed synopsis on their progress for the Parent Child Study Center.
A meeting with Halff Associates will be scheduled in the next few weeks. Susan Hansen reported there has been no “IT” meeting scheduled for the Parent Child Study Center Design. A meeting to discuss security safety has been scheduled for February 12, 2008.
Pleasant Grove Campus
Dr. Lindle Grigsby reported that Darren James with KAI is working to receive final approval from the City of Dallas for the Pleasant Grove Campus permits. Construction is planned to begin early in February 2008. The official address location is 802 South Buckner.
Directions and parking arrangements to the Pleasant Grove Campus were provided for those planning to join Dr. Carol Brown, Dr. Wright Lassiter and the community at the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Thursday, February 7, 2008.
Workforce / Criminal Justice Facility
Halff Associates reported that the design development drawings for the Workforce Development Center have been submitted. A cost analysis for the aggregate design development project was submitted, there were no pending obstacles.
There have been discussions on a shared system for the HVAC and major utilities for the Workforce Development Center and the Child Care Center for purpose of cost efficiencies. These discussions are moving forward.
Technology “T” Building Expansion
Michael Johnson with Johnson McKibben Architectural firm reported that progress on the “T” building expansion is on target with no complications or intricate changes. A tentative “scope budget” meeting will be scheduled during March 2008.
Negotiations with City of Mesquite
Susan Hansen reported that teams have been established on all four building projects, i.e. Learning Studios, Parent Child Study Center, Workforce/Criminal Justice Facility, and Technology “T” building expansion. The Project Managers and EFC are currently working with the City of Mesquite to address the design of the detention pond for the water drainage problem. Susan Hansen said this will be resolved by next month. Susan Hansen emphasized to committee members how critical their input is in the design and development phase of each project.
Dan Arrowood with HKS will review the detention pond drawings with Susan Hansen.

Functional Team Report
Jack Thiehoff sent the questionnaire below to committee members on the “virtual team” for the Pleasant Grove Campus. Jack will compile a report encompassing a general consensus of the committee responses.
Questionnaire:
Discussion of the Simon Voss locking system was discussed during the “virtual team” meeting with Jack Thiehoff. Members were encouraged to view http://www.simons-voss.us/index.php?id=352 for more details on how the locking system is utilized.
Jack Thiehoff will have demo locks placed on L110 and A212 on February 22, 2008. A cost evaluation analysis will be done to determine feasibility of utilizing locks on existing and new building structures.
Jack Thiehoff recommended the new buildings have the capability of optimum connection which allows for video conferencing.
