(Mesquite, TX) – Carlos Antonio Rovelo, adjunct professor of Art Appreciation and Humanities will present an interactive and bilingual lecture on “La Virgen de Guadalupe throughout the Ages” at the Eastfield College Pleasant Grove Campus on Saturday, December 11 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in PG203.
In 1521, Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital city and great military, economic and cultural empire was conquered by the Spanish crown. Less than a decade later, nine million indigenous peoples who had endured centuries of old cultural traditions then began to embrace a new faith, The Virgin of Guadalupe. Rovelo will explore what caused this cultural revolution and how it continues to impact the cultural traditions of today.
Individuals attending the lecture are asked to participate in the event by bringing an image or object that represents the Virgin of Guadalupe. These items will be displayed and shared with the other participants. “We want every Guadalupe from home to join us at the Pleasant Grove lecture event,” Rovelo said.
The lecture will include Rovelo’s collection of images, videos and research from several visits to the Basilica de Guadalupe sanctuary in Mexico City. Families are encouraged to bring their children.
