Women’s Panel at Eastfield College

(Mesquite, TX) – In honor of Women's History Month, Eastfield College Business & Fine Arts Division will sponsor a panel discussion with women from the Dallas area featured in the book “Chicanas In Charge: Texas Women In The Public Arena.” The event will be held on March 3, from 11:15 a.m. -12:10 p.m. in S100.

The panel will feature women who are the first Hispanics in state government, city government, media, and on the Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees, such as:

• Anita N. Martinez, first Hispanic on the Dallas City Council and founder of the Anita N.   Martinez Ballet Folkloricò
• Mercedes Olivera from the Dallas Morning News
• Hon. Lena Levario, presiding Judge of the 204th District Criminal Court and the first Hispanic  appointed to the State District Court bench in Dallas County
• Elvira Reyna, the first Hispanic woman elected to the House of Representatives as  Republican
• Dallas City Councilmember Pauline Medrano
• Diana Flores, the first Hispanic elected to the Dallas County Community College District Board  of Trustees
• Martha Sanchez Metzger, Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees member from District 4
  

This panel will be a most informative presentation by some of the most influential leaders in the community. The purpose of the panel discussion is to illustrate the importance of Core Curriculum and careers such as Politics, Education, Journalism and History. At a time when demographics are changing and many Hispanic women are entering college as first generation learners, this is a timely subject.
