Enrollment in the Eastfield Criminal Justice Training Center is
handled through the continuing
education department at Eastfield College and must be done in person for law
enforcement courses.

All new students must complete the ECJTC Student Information Packet.
Due to state regulations we cannot put this packet online for public
download. Please contact Marcia

or for one to be mailed to you.
Students interested in the Basic Peace Officer Course must submit to a
criminal background investigation prior to course
registration. Students who can provide proof of a current Texas Concealed
Handgun License or Texas Jailer License are not required to submit to a criminal
background investigation. Proof of citizenship and proof of minimum
education requirements must also be submitted prior to course
registration. Please contact Marcia

Students enrolling in mandatory, intermediate and advanced courses must
currently be enrolled and attending a Basic Peace Officer Course (for defensive
tactics courses) or submit a copy of their TCLEOSE and/or department identification at the
time of registration.
Enrollment Standards:
In order for an individual to enroll in any basic licensing course which provides instruction in defensive tactics, arrest procedures, firearms, or use of a motor vehicle for law enforcement purposes, the academy must have on file:
- written documentation that the person is currently licensed by the commission;
or
- if the person is not licensed by the commission, documentation that the
individual has been subjected to a search of local, state and national records
to disclose any criminal record;
- is not currently charged with any criminal offense for which conviction
would be a bar to licensure;
- community supervision history:
- has never been on court-ordered community supervision or probation
for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class C misdemeanor
or a Class C misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of
the court order; but
- the commission may approve the application of an individual who
received probation or court-ordered community supervision for a Class
C misdemeanor at least five (5) years prior to enrollment if an agency
administrator sufficiently demonstrates in writing with supporting
documentation that mitigating circumstances exist with the case and
with the individual applying for licensure, and that the public interest
would be served by reducing the waiting period;
- conviction history:
- has never been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class
C misdemeanor or a Class C misdemeanor within the last ten years;
but
- the commission may approve the application of an individual who
was convicted of a Class C misdemeanor at least five (5) years prior
to enrollment if an agency administrator sufficiently demonstrates
in writing with supporting documentation that mitigating circumstances
exist with the case and with the individual applying for licensure,
and that the public interest would be served by reducing the waiting
period.
- For purposes of this section, the commission and EFC Criminal Justice
will construe any court ordered community supervision, probation, or conviction
for a criminal offense to be its closest equivalent under the Texas Penal
Code classification of offenses if the offense arose from: Texas Commission
on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education January 1, 2005 26
- another penal provision of Texas law; or
- a penal provision of any other state, federal, military or foreign
jurisdiction.
- A classification of an offense as a felony at the time of conviction
will never be changed because Texas law has changed or because the offense
would not be a felony under current Texas law.
- has never been convicted of any family violence offense;
- is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle;
- is not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms
or ammunition; and
- is a U.S. citizen.
In order for an individual to enroll in any basic peace officer training program
which provides instruction in defensive tactics, arrest procedures, firearms,
or use of a motor vehicle for law enforcement purposes, the academy must have
on file:
- a high school diploma;
- a high school equivalency certificate and has completed at least 12 hours
at an institution of higher education with at least a 2.0 grade point average
on a 4.0 scale; or
- an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after
at least 24 months of active duty service;
The enrollment standards established in this section do not preclude the academy
licensee from establishing additional requirements or standards for enrollment
in law enforcement training programs.
The effective date of this section is June 1, 2004.
For the purposes of this section, Eastfield College Criminal Justice Training
Center will construe, in accordance with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
Officers Standards and Education, any court-ordered community supervision, probation
or conviction for a criminal offense to be its closest equivalent under the
Texas Penal Code classification of offenses if the offense arose from another
penal provision of Texas law, or a penal provision of any other state, federal,
military or foreign jurisdiction. A classification of an offense as a felony
at the time of conviction will never be changed because Texas law has changed
or because the offense would not be a felony under current Texas law.
Eastfield College Criminal Justice Training Center programs are designed
in compliance with (TCLEOSE) Commission standards to permit the student the
best opportunity for enrollment, certification and licensing.
Reading and Writing Requirements
All potential Criminal Justice students must take reading and writing proficiency
examinations, except those with an Associates degree (60 hours credit) or higher
degree.
Completion Requirements
All students must complete all required standards within 6 months of graduation
from Basic Peace Officer certification program. Students graduating prior to
January 1, 2005 will have one year.
