Supervision and Management

The Supervision and Management Certificate is designed for current and future supervisors in large and small profit and nonprofit organizations.  These courses will give students a solid foundation of management and organizational theory while emphasizing the practical applications of supervisory management. The Supervision and Management courses will prepare students to be effective supervisors and leaders.

Introduction to Supervision 1

This course provides a solid foundation in supervision basics, including planning, organizing, staffing, recruitment, decision-making, motivating employees, leading teams, handling conflicts, and much more. This course emphasizes the most effective strategies and techniques for becoming a highly effective supervisor. Topics include supervisory tasks, leadership and motivational skills, communication processes, organizational design, and effective solution strategies.

Introduction to Supervision 2

This course helps students gain a solid understanding of the vast responsibilities today's supervisors face and how to best approach these responsibilities, including the management of diverse and virtual teams.  Students will learn how supervisors can spend more time setting their employees up for success and less time controlling and disciplining. Topics include supervisory tasks, leadership and motivational skills, communication processes, organizational design, and effective solution strategies.

Fundamentals of Supervision 1

This course addresses some of management's most pressing challenges, including globalization, managing through economic turbulence, transitional and temporary workers, virtual employees, technology and its effects on supervision, and outsourcing and downsizing. Topics include concepts and skills of leadership in the work setting, introduces leadership and motivational theories and leadership styles, and includes evaluation of leadership performance.

Fundamentals of Supervision 2

Students learn emphasis on diversity and ethics. Students refine their skills and retain the knowledge for interpersonal communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, and the other supervisory skills most important for their immediate and future career. Topics include concepts and skills of leadership in the work setting, introduces leadership and motivational theories and leadership styles, and includes evaluation of leadership performance.

Supervisory Management

This course is a practical "hands-on" approach that blends skill-building opportunities with traditional management principles.  Major topics include  planning, leading, skill development, controlling, and managing human resources and diversity.  Students learn to emphasize the positive approach of working cooperatively with people to develop and empower them to better perform in their working roles.
