Emergency Medical Technician

The Emergency Medical Technician course is designed for people who wish to become Emergency Medical Technicians. Graduates will function in the prehospital care and emergency medical environment at the Texas Department of Health EMT – Paramedic level and American Heart Association – Health Care Provider level.

Course requirements are:

  • 18 years or older at time of course completion.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Tuberculin test administered (maximum) 30 days prior to first class day.
  • Ability to read as well as communicate in English.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
  • Ability to calculate weight and volume ratios, and read small print.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain.
  • Completion of Hepatitis B series prior to patient contact

Classes are held at the Sunnyvale Fire Department every third day. EMSP 1060 will be offered the following semester. Upon successful completion of both EMSP 1001 and EMSP 1060, student may request the Texas Department of Health State Certification Exam.
