Teach the Trainer Program

During Summer I 2010, forty-one teachers recruited internationally through DISD's Alternative Certification Program, took continuing education courses at Eastfield College. The wonderful team of teachers from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Chile, Colombia, Peru and the Dominican Republic took two courses: advanced speech pronunciation and advanced math review.  The international teachers were hosted by the Arts, Languages and Literature Division with a meet-and-greet breakfast and an ice-cream social at the closing of the program.  Dr. Veronica Pasternac, Instructional Specialist for DISD Alternative Certification, Casundra Ensley, Math Coordinator for Alternative Certification for DISD, and Maria Caratini Prado, Assistant Dean, Arts, Language and Literature Division, were in charge of the partnership which is in its fourth year.  The faculty adjuncts were Steve Christie (ESL), Barbara Ledezma (ESL) and Nathan Stevens (College Readiness Division).  The partnership is funded through a federal grant.
