Enrollment Information:

Enrollment information for the Eastfield College Criminal Justice Training Center (LEA) – TCLOEOSE certification is handled through the Criminal Justice Training Center and the Social Science Department Eastfield College. Due to state regulations, specific secure information is required as the first step in enrollment. Therefore, prospective students must pick up, complete and return the Eastfield Criminal Justice Enrollment Packet prior to any enrollment. Social Science Office Building LC Room 237, phone 972 – 860- 7156 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Evening Office C-202 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Continuing Education Office C-112, phone 972-860-7113 Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday 8:30 - 4:00

Due to state restrictions, packets can not be put online for public download, but can be mailed. After the packet is completed and received in the CJ office it takes approximately 10 to 14 working days to process the information to determine whether the student qualifies for the TCLEOSE Basic Program. After screening is complete, students will be contacted by the Criminal Justice Staff personnel. 

Enrollment Requirements

In order for an individual to enroll in any basic licensing course which provides instruction in defensive tactics, arrest procedures, firearms, or use of a motor vehicle for law enforcement purposes, the academy must have on file:

  1. All students are subject to a Criminal Background check through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC). These background checks are handled via electronic fingerprints and all information needed for the process is included in the packet.
  2. To qualify for the TCLEOSE Basic program, students can not have a conviction or be on court-ordered community supervision or probation for:
    1. any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor
    2. any Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order - conviction.  
    3. any family violence offense
    4. any issues that prohibits the person by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle and or any issues that prohibits the person by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition;
  3. Students cannot have any issues pending before any court or grand jury that would prevent licensure.
  4. A classification of an offense as a felony at the time of conviction will never be changed because Texas law has changed or because the offense would not be a felony under current Texas law.
  5. For purposes of this section, the commission and Eastfield College will construe any court ordered community supervision, probation, or conviction for a criminal offense to be its closest equivalent under the Texas Penal Code classification of offenses if the offense arose from:
    1. another penal provision of Texas law; or
    2. a penal provision of any other state, federal, military or foreign jurisdiction.     
  6. Students are required to be citizens of the United States and must submit proof of citizenship.  
    1. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website list four items that may prove citizenship:
      1. Birth Certificate ‑ issued by a U.S. State (if the person was born in the U.S.), or by the U.S. Department of State (if the person was born overseas and the parents registered the child’s birth and U.S. citizenship at birth with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate).
      2. U.S. Passport – issued by the U.S. Department of State
      3. Certificate of Citizenship – issued to a person born outside the U.S. who was still a U.S. citizen at birth, or to a person who later automatically became a U.S. citizen
      4. Naturalization Certificate – issued to a person who became a U.S. citizen after birth through the naturalization process
    2. These are the only documents that TCLEOSE and Eastfield College will accept.
  7. Students must have:
    1. High School Diploma or;
    2. GED with 12 transferable college credit hours with a grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale or.
    3. an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least 24 months of active duty service supported by DD 214.
      1. All students with prior military service must have an honorable discharge supported by DD214.
    4. Students must be twenty-one years of age or older at the time of enrollment.
    5. Students not possessing at least 3 hours of college credit hours in Freshman English (1301 or 101) must take a Reading/Writing test and score at the college freshman level

Completion Requirements:

In order to successfully complete all requirements for the Basic Peace Officer course, students in the program must:

  1. Complete the Basic Peace Officer Course within 24 months from start to finish of the BPOC program, beginning 9/1/2008.
  2. Make a score of 80% or above on a 100% grading standard on all subject examinations..
  3. Make a score of 85% or above on a 100% grading scale on the course Exit Examination prior to being certified as eligible to take the TCLEOSE state examination.
