Computer-assisted applications in integrating engineering graphics and manufacturing. Emphasis on the conversion of a working drawing using computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software and related input and output devices to translate into machine code.  Review the history and application of CAD/CAM systems; illustrate the equipment and systems of CAD/CAM components; demonstrate competency of CAD/CAM software and related input and output devices; and interface CAD/CAM to machines.

DFTG 1405: Techn Drafting - DFTG 1005       $164.00

Prerequisites: Technical Drafting Skills
Use basic drafting skills to draw and dimension two-dimensional drawings, to save drawing, and exit AutoCAD. Commands from the BLOCKS, DIMENSIONING, DISPLAY, DRAW, EDIT, INQUIRY, LAYER, PLOT, SETTINGS, UCS, and UTILITY Menus are included. The participant will be able to make the required drawing settings; retrieve drawings to and from disks; make 2-D drawings to scale using AutoCAD DRAW and EDIT commands; add hatching and dimensions to full scale drawings; draw isometric exploded views to scale from 2-D drawings.

JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN EXAM REVIEW
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of electricity and electrical circuits plus 8000 hrs OJT in the electrical trades.
Preparation for journeyman electrician licensure with emphasis on calculations and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Students will be able to recognize and properly utilize formulas used to solve problems for DC & AC application including single-phase and three-phase; describe proper materials and wiring methods used for wiring; explain license requirements of various jurisdictions and the procedures for applying and testing for licensure; and identify important test-taking skills. Master Elect. Exam Review I - ELPT 1040      $225.00
MASTER ELECTRICIAN EXAM REVIEW I
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of electricity and electrical circuits plus 12,000 OJT in the electrical trades industry.
A study of electrical theory, code calculations, and interpretations applicable to becoming a master electrician. This is NOT a basic electrical course. Emphasis is on residential, commercial, and industrial installation rules and laws using the 2008 National Electric Code (NEC) and local ordinances. Students will use circuit analysis techniques to solve for unknowns in DC & AC circuits; utilize the NEC to size conductors, raceways, overcurrent protection, and other equipment for branch circuits; size services for singe-family dwellings, multi-family dwellings, offices, stores, schools, mobile homes, recreational vehicles, commercial cooking equipment, and motors; and differentiate the rules and regulations of different cities relating to meeting the requirements for taking the Master Electrician’s Exam. 2008 National Electrical Code and Electrical NEC Exam Preparation by Mike Holt is required.

Basic hardware and software applications for industrial Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Includes power supplies, discrete Input/Output (IO) modules, programming devices, processors, basic logic elements, timers, and counters. Part 1 of 3, this course will provide basic information on how PLCs fit into an industrial control system, hands on connection of PLC in a typical control cabinet and necessary set-up techniques. Over 50% of the class time is wiring and performing basic start-up on a PLC based system.

Prerequisites: Completion of PLC Training I or equivalent experience.
Topics address current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the electrical technology relevant to the professional development of the student. Part 2 of 3, this course provides hands-on programming with manufacturer’s software. Students will perform SCADA functions to move information between control stations and provide printed and electronic copy of programs for documentation. 80% of the class is on programming a PLC system.

Prerequisites: Completion of PLC Training I & II or equivalent experience.

Part 3 of 3, this course focuses on the Operator Interfaces and how they fit into an industrial control system. The Operator Interface will be programmed to display critical information from a PLC. This course will also contain troubleshooting techniques. 75% of the class time will be programming an Operator Interface in a PLC based system.

Concurrent with CETT 1403  DC Circuits. DC Circuits is a study of the fundamentals of direct current including Ohm’s law, Kirchoff’s laws and circuit analysis techniques. Emphasis on circuit analysis of resistive networks and DC measurements.

Concurrent with CETT 1405. A study of the fundamentals of alternating current including series and parallel AC circuits, phasors, capacitive and inductive networks, transformers, and resonance. Student will demonstrate appropriate use of test equipment; identify various sources of electricity in AC circuits; analyze AC circuits using appropriate mathematical formulas; troubleshoot various AC circuits using schematic diagrams; and apply and interpret basic principles of magnetism.

LOTT 1401: Intro to Fiber Opt - LOTT 1001  $164.00
INTRODUCTION TO FIBER OPTICS
An introductory course in fiber optics and its application including advantages of fiber, light transmission in fiber, types of fiber, sources, detectors, and connectors. Students will connect fiber optic cables and fiber by mechanical and fusion methods; make measurements to determine the condition of a fiber optic system, loss, numerical aperture (NA), band width (BW), and dispersion; build and characterize fiber optic (FO) transmitters and receivers; and determine the need of a given application for the fiber system to be used.

Texas State Licensing For Air Conditioning Contractors Examination Preparation Course. This course is designed to help prepare students to take the TACL exam to become licensed ARC contractors. Concurrent with HART 2449. A study of heat pumps, heat pump control circuits, defrost controls, auxiliary heat, air flow, and other topics related to heat pump systems. Students will explain a reverse cycle system; list the mechanical and electrical components for the heat pump operation; and explain the operation of heat pump modes including cooling, heating, defrost, emergency heat, and auxiliary heat mode. Students will identify and explain different methods of accomplishing defrost; charge a system correctly in the heating and cooling mode; troubleshoot electrical and mechanical components; perform tests for adequate air flow; and determine balance point and coefficiency of performance.
