Lifeguard Cpr/Aed/Fa - $175.00

PREREQUISITE: Minimum age 15; swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl for 100 yards, breaststroke for 100 yards, and any combination of the previous strokes for 200 yards; swim 20 yards then surface dive to depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, and swim 20 yards back to start, keep face above the water while holding the 10-pound object with both hands; exit pool without steps or ladder within 1 minute/40seconds. Instruction will be provided in the knowledge and skills necessary to perform duties of an aquatic lifeguard. Topics include rescue operations, monitoring techniques, first aid and management of emergency situations. Participants will demonstrate various water rescue techniques and explain appropriate emergency procedures. American Red Cross 3-year Lifeguard certification, 1 year CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and a 3 year First Aid certifications are available upon successful demonstration of all required skills, 3 final skill scenarios and successful 80% completion of written tests for this course. For students under the age of 18, parents must complete an Emergency Treatment form before or at the beginning of class. Please pick up the form in the Continuing Education office in building C room W117, Monday through Thursday 8 am-7 pm or on Fridays from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Water Safety Instructor - $175.00

American Red Cross 2 parts: Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT), and Water Safety Instructor Certificate Training (WSI) provided. Instruction will include knowledge and skills necessary to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Water Safety Outreach classes, and American Red Cross Learn To Swim Program Levels 1 thru 6. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is available for those who successfully participate in ALL course activities and complete all assignments; demonstrate instructor candidate competencies, and pass a written test with 80% accuracy. TEXTBOOKS: Water Safety Instructor Manual (American Red Cross) , Fundamentals of Instructor Training, Swimming and Water Safety, Raffy Learns to Swim, and Waddles in the Deep. Books can be purchased in College bookstore. Call 972-860-7017 to arrange practicing swimming skills on Saturdays before course begins.
