Parent registration/Orientation meeting required proior to registration. For all children under the age of 18, parents must complete a DCCCD Minor Student Emergency Health Release form before the class begins. Pick up form in the Continuing Education office during regular business hours. For students under the age of 15, a parent needs to sign student in and out of every class session.

Homeschool Resources - EDUZ 1000  $40.00
Parents, are you considering Homeschooling? Are you looking for more support and curriculum resources or different teaching methods? Come to a special parents' course where we will discuss and share: philosophy of home education, Texas and national laws, homeschool parent support groups, how children learn, learning styles, curriculum resources and teaching methods for specific subjects to facilitate your children's learning. The facilitator Lisa Coleman is a certified teacher as well as homeschool parent and consultant to other homeschoolers.

Jump Start College Success - DLEZ 1000        $90.00
Prerequisites: Teens thru adult
Students who want to gain insight into specific reading skills and improve reading speed will benefit from this class. Practice will include suggestions for use of various types of textbooks, study skills such as note-taking, studying, research and writing, test questions including different types of essays, and test-taking techniques. Supplies needed are pen, pencils, highlighters, and note paper. Textbook required.

PowerPoint for Teens - POFZ 1000     $130.00
Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers course.
This is a one semester course. Each person will have his/her own computer to use in the computer lab. The students will get hands-on experience learning how to create effective, impressive, professional-looking presentations ideal for class or club audiences. Parents of registered students may observe computer class in session. Each student will need to bring a 3.5" HD diskette.

Critical Thinking for Teens - HDEZ 1000          $140.00
Prerequisites: for grades 7-12
One semester course (for language arts, social studies, or elective) covers critical thinking/reading, logical reasoning, problem solving. Learn how to discover truth or fallacy statements, errors in reasoning, propaganda techniques, advertising and schemes, examining arguments and value judgments, and learning to be open-minded. Textbook: Critical Thinking, Book 1 by Anita Harnadek.

History of Philosophy Teens - PHIZ 1000         $150.00
One semester course (for history, literature or elective) focuses on the major philosophers of the Western world, from pre-Socratics to the rationalists, empiricists of the Enlightenment era and modern philosophers. Discussion will be a big part of the course. Text is Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder.

Middle School Earth Science - SIEZ 1000 $180.00
Prerequisites: Grades 6 thru 9
This is a one semester full year's middle school grades 6-9 Earth Science course. Topics covered are Geology, Meterology, Oceanography, and Astronomy. Textbook is Holt Science & Technology Earth Science. Lab manual is Data Sheets for Lab Book.

Writing, Grammar, Speech II B - DWRZ 1000 $150.00
Prerequisites: Grades 7-9 and completion of first semester of this course.
Second semester of advanced writing course. Grades 9-12 will learn skills for college entrance essays, comparisons, character analysis, definition & summary essays. MLA standards will be used in documenting research for a PowerPoint informative speech and how-to demonstration. Grades 7-9 will write 5 paragraph essays and research for a PowerPoint presentation and how-to demonstration. Weekly homework: a short essay and grammar exercises. Parent must work with student to assist in proofreading essays for mechanical errors. Parent, please come to first 15 minutes of first class. 2 textbooks required.

Spanish IB for Teens - TNLZ 1000 $130.00
Prerequisites: Spanish IA or equivalent skills. Parent orientation required.
Course is a continuation of beginning level Spanish IA for Teens. Students will learn by listening, watching, practicing, reading and writing conversational Spanish. Fun activities make learning easy and enjoyable. Supplies required include an English/Spanish dictionary and "Spanish Is Fun" Book 1 textbook (softbound, AMSCO Publisher).

Prerequisites: Spanish I & II & IIIA
A third year/second semester Spanish course. The students will learn by listening, watching, practicing, reading and writing conversational Spanish. Fun activities make learning easy and enjoyable. Biology for Teens - SIEZ 1000 $175.00
Prerequisites: Middle school basic chemistry principles
Class meets 2 days each week. Lecture on Wed, 3-4:30pm, room TBA and lab on Fridays 4-6pm in S315. Basic life science laboratory course introduces safe laboratory procedures and provides laboratory experiments to assist students in understanding the following topics: First semester covers: scientific method; fundamentals of chemistry; chemistry of living things; cell types, structure, function, metabolism, cell division and reproduction; genetics. Second semester topics include survey of living world, ecosystems and communities; natural selection and adaptation; animal behavior. Science facilitator/instructor will guide the student in locating resources to study life science curriculum and understanding the topics presented by providing laboratory experiments and assignments. Instructor will assign outside reading and practice using handouts, textbooks, or the internet, or taking field trips to area museums. Students required to provide some lab supplies: safety glasses or goggles with side protectors, 3-ring binder with pocket dividers, 1 spiral notebook, 1 packet biology drawing paper. Textbook: Biology of Life (2002) , and Lab Manual , Glencoe/McGraw Hill. Lecture Wed, 3-4:30pm; Lab on Friday, 4-6pm in S 315.  

Chemistry for Teens - SIEZ 1000 $180.00
Prerequisites: Algebra I and junior high chemistry course
This is a one semester, full year course. Class meets 2 times per week. Fundamental concepts are presented in lecture and laboratory including the periodic table, atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, stoichiometry, states of matter, properties of metals, nonmetals and compounds, acid-base theory, oxidation-reduction and solutions. Descriptive chemistry is emphasized. Students are required to provide: regulation safety goggles, 3", 3ring binder with 14 dividers, and a scientific calculator. Instructor will assign outside reading and practice using handouts, textbooks, or the Internet. Textbook and book for lab required. Lecture meets on Wednesdays, 1-3 and lab meets on Mondays, 1-3pm in Science bldg, rooms TBA

PHYS 1407: Conceptual Physics Teens - PHYZ 1000 $156.00
Prerequisites: first semester Conceptual Physics
Second semester high school Conceptual Physics that is taught by credit instructor Jay Justice and meets with credit course 457434 PHYS 1407. Lecture Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:45-2:05pm in C261 and lab on Mondays, 2:15-4:55pm in C320.

Consumer Personal Finance - DMAZ 1000      $99.00
Math Texas Education Agency new high school graduation requirement for all high schoolers who started as freshman in fall 2007 or thereafter.  Topics include (but not limited to) personal banking (checking/savings,) credit, loans, investment, mortgages. 

Middle School Life Science - SIEZ 1000 $140.00
Grades 6,7, and 8. For students preparing for high school Biology. This is a 2 semester hands-on, lab-oriented course covers study and classification of living things, cells, simple organisms, fungi, plants, animals, heredity, ecology, human body systems and human health. Study is required outside of class. There will be 2 rooms assigned; one for lecture and one for lab.

Middle School Chemistry & Physical Science - SIEZ 1000 $140.00
Prerequisites: basic math including decimals
This 2 semester junior high (grades 6-9) chemistry and physical science laboratory course will introduce students to safe, hands-on, laboratory procedures and provide laboratory experiments to assist students in understanding chemistry and physics principles to prepare for high school science classes. Topics to include matter, motion and forces, work and machines, atoms, periodic table, chemical bonding and reactions, compounds and atomic energy, electricity and magnetism, sound and light. Students will be required to provide some lab supplies including safety goggles for lab. A supply list will be provided in class. Textbooks required.

Pre-Algebra Math for Teens - DMAZ 1000 $170.00
Class meets 2 days per week. Individualized math assessment and basic math skills curriculum designed for each student’s needs. Math facilitator/instructor will guide student in the completion of as many math objectives as possible by presenting/discussing topics, suggesting outside reading and practice using the textbook. The PLATO math curriculum is also available in the Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. Textbook required.

Algebra I for Teens - DMAZ 1000 $170.00
Prerequisites: Mastery of basic math fundamentals, Pre-Algebra math and first semester of Alg I.
Individualized math assessment and beginning algebra math skills curriculum is designed for each student’s needs. Math facilitator/instructor will guide the student in completing math competencies as student is ready by providing lecture, group work based on use of the textbook. PLATO computerized math curriculum is also available in Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. Textbook required.

Algebra II Teens - DMAZ 1000          $170.00
Prerequisites: Mastery of basic math fundamentals/Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II first semester math.
Intermediate algebra math skills curriculum Math facilitator/instructor will guide the student in completing math objectives by providing lecture, group work and discussion based on the textbook. The PLATO computerized math curriculum is located in the Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. TEXTBOOK required.

Geometry for Teens - DMAZ 1000 $170.00
Prerequisites: Mastery of basic math fundamentals/Pre Algebra math and first semester of Geometry.
Continuation of first semester Geometry math skills curriculum. Math facilitator/instructor will guide the student in completing objectives by lecture and group discussion based on the textbook lessons. The computerized PLATO math curriculum is also located in the Learning Assistance Center. Supplies include notebook, loose-leaf paper, pencils and erasers. TEXTBOOK required

Pre-Calculus - DMAZ 1000 $170.00
Prerequisites: Advanced grades 9-12 who have completed Algebra I, II and Geometry and first semester of Pre-Calculus
Second semester continuation of Pre-Calculus. Get ready for college math courses by studying pre-calculus.

Math Magician Tutoring - DMAZ 1000 $140.00
All ages 7-18. Come visit the math Magician.  Show me the questions you don't understand.  Students need to bring own school textbook, homework, quizzes, and tests and lots of questions. Please bring own pencils and notebook paper.

Read/Write and Math Test Preparation (See Guided Studies CE sched) for ACCUPLACER, THEA, SAT & ACT exams.  Take class(es) semester before test date.
