Basic Peace Officer Training

LE: Basic Peace Officer I - CJLE 1006 $300.00
BASIC PEACE OFFICER I
Prerequisites: All students applying for the BPO course must complete and return an enrollment packet 2 weeks before 1st class day. Basic Peace Officer students who have less than documented 60 college hours of credit will be required to take a reading examination
Introduction to fitness and wellness, history of policing, professionalism and ethics, United States Constitution and Bill of Rights, criminal justice system, Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, civil process, and stress management. This course taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer II, III, and IV will satisfy the TCLEOSE-approved Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. Course Level: Introductory. Students must successfully complete BPO I,II,III, & IV to set for the TCLEOSE certification exam. Students must successfully score 85% on a 100 standard EXIT EXAM to receive eligibility for State Exam.

LE: Basic Peace Officer II - CJLE 1012 $300.00
BASIC PEACE OFFICER II
Basic preparation for a new peace officer. Covers field note taking, report writing, "use of force" law and concepts, problem solving, multiculturalism, professional policing approaches, patrol procedures, victims of crime, family violence, MHMR, crowd management, HAZMAT, and criminal investigation. This course taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer I, III, and IV will satisfy the TCLEOSE-approved Basic Peace Officer Academy. Students must enroll for Basic Peace Officer I, II, III and IV. Course Level: Introductory. Students must successfully complete Basic Peace Officer I(CJLE 1006), II (CJLE 1012) III (CJLE 1018) and IV (CJLE 1024) to graduate and must pass Exit Examination w/85%+ to sit for TCLEOSE exam.

BASIC PEACE OFFICER III
Basic preparation for a new peace officer. Covers laws pertaining to controlled substances, crowd management, personal property, and crime scene investigation. This course taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer I, II, and IV will satisfy the TCLEOSE-approved Basic Peace Officer Academy. **THIS COURSE MAY BE OFFERED ONLY BY INSTITUTIONS LICENSED AS A POLICE ACADEMY BY THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER STANDARDS AND EDUCATION (TCLEOSE). Students must successfully complete Basic Peace Officer I(CJLE 1006), II (CJLE 1012) III (CJLE 1018) and IV (CJLE 1024) to graduate and must pass Exit Examination w/85%+ to sit for TCLEOSE exam.

BASIC PEACE OFFICER IV
Prerequisites: Must have completed BPO, I, II or III before being eligible to enter this 4th phase.
Includes Professional Police Driving, Problem Solving Techniques, Interviewing and Interrogating, handling abnormal persons, and jail operations, Preparation of Criminal Case, Driving and Other practical demonstration areas. This course taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer I, II, and III will satisfy the TCLEOSE-approved Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. Students must enroll for Basic Peace Officer I, II,III, and IV to satisfy TCLEOSE requirements. Course Level: Introductory. Students must successfully complete Basic Peace Officer I(CJLE 1006), II (CJLE 1012) III (CJLE 1018) and IV (CJLE 1024) to graduate and must pass Exit Examination w/85%+ to sit for TCLEOSE exam.

Introductory Officer Training

LE: Crisis Intervention - CJLE 2000 $125.00
Crisis Intervention
Prerequisites: Must be a licensed peace officer.
This course is a continuation and review of the crisis intervention section of the Basic Peace Officer Curriculum. Crisis intervention training techniques, mental health awareness, legal and liability issues, as well as referral resources will be discussed. The purpose of the Intermediate Crisis Intervention Training course is to educate law enforcement officers about issues pertaining to crisis intervention techniques, especially in communicating with persons with a mental illness. Senate Bill 1473 amended 1701.253, Occupations Code, by requiring training in “de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to facilitate interaction with persons with mental impairments.”  Effective September 1, 2005, this training becomes a requirement for an intermediate or advanced certificate.  A person licensed as a peace officer for more than two years, or holding an intermediate or higher certification, must complete this training before September 1, 2009.

Intermediate Officer Training

LE: Statutory Auth Use of Force - CJLE 1056 $75.00
LE-STATUTORY AUTHORITY USE OF FORCE
Prerequisites: Must be a licensed peace officer or have permission from Program Director.
Study of the use of force including psychological and emotional factors, "use of force" factors, force options, and deadly force. Also includes legal issues such as civil rights complaints, governmental liability, court decisions, and vicarious liability. TCLEOSE intermediate core course #2107. Course Level: Intermediate.

LE: Interm Child Abuse Prev&Inves - CJLE 2003 $75.00
INTERMEDIATE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AND INVESTIGATION
Prerequisites: Must be a licensed peace officer or have permission from Program Director.
A study of child abuse theories and components of good parenting; emotional neglect and abuse; characteristics, dynamics, and  indicators of physical neglect and abuse; initial investigative procedures and  strategies; injury identification and investigation; interview strategies and  techniques. Topics also include special investigative issues, interrogation  techniques, runaway children, Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory  Services (DPRS), Texas Crime Victims Rights and Crime Victims Compensation Act, uniform crime reporting, family violence, and interagency cooperation and teamwork.

Study of the relationship between Hispanic Americans, History of Hispanic Americans and cultural backgrounds, Myths and Stereotypes about Hispanic Americans, Illegal aliens, traditional roles of men and women in the Hispanic culture, stress and its relationship to language and communication, establishing trust with Hispanic community, non-verbal conversation, emotional expression, derogatory language, basic understanding and a working knowledge of learning to speak everyday Spanish, basic and indispensable means of communication in Spanish.
