SPECIAL TOPICS IN FLORICULTURE/FLORISTRY OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT
New Certificate program class. Discover the basic techniques of floral design and arrangement with the use of various sized and shaped containers. Students will arrange basic designs: horizontal, L-shaped, triangle and round. This course will help to understand the value that flowers have in order to enhance and accent the home or business, and how to prepare them for retail sales.  Instructor will provide information weekly, in class, concerning the number of flowers and container needed. Students will need to purchase their own flowers and supplies. Cost will vary week to week. Class held at Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way, Mesquite, 972-279-7477

Advanced Floral Design - FMKT 2031   $120.00
ADVANCED FLORAL DESIGN
Prerequisites: Fresh Floral Design FMKT 1001
Certificate Program;  Learn professional techniques in a hands-on class with a Florist.  This course will cover in-depth advanced floral design practices for the retail floral industry. Topics include contemporary floral arrangement styles and trends. You will create floral designs including wedding arrangements; identify specialty flowers and foliages used in retail shops; determine care and processing techniques; select mechanical aids; and calculate price by various methods. Students provide own weekly supplies or cost of supplies for each class is payable to instructor each week. Avoid bankruptcy.  Financial Peace, a program developed by Dave Ramsey, is presented in high schools and to adults across the country. Using dynamic videos, discussion, and an interactive workbook, the trained facilitator will  assist you to understand financial and emotional distresses caused by debt. Topics include dumping debt, buyer beware, super saving, getting control of money, bargaining, planning a budget, and understanding value of investing. Textbook required.

Studio Portraiture - PHTC 1003 $120.00
STUDIO LIGHTING                            
Prerequisites: Introduction to Photography or Basic 35mm class. Bring own 35mm slr film or medium format or digital slr with manual exposure settings camera, film and props.This class is intended to give students hands-on experience working with models for studio portraiture.  Each week the student will photograph various models using studio flash.  Students will be given instructions on how to pose the model, use filters, select appropriate films, select camera format (35mm, medium or digital.) Students will learn the terminology of studio photography and how to develop a portfolio. Students must have a camera with adjustable f-stops, shutter speeds, ISO settings and adjustable focus, lenses, film and processing on own. The camera may be 35mm Single Lens Reflex, medium format, or adjustable 3 MP digital with hot shoe or sync cord receptacle. Bring in your own products or props to photograph. You can expect weekly assignments.
