This is the beginning course in English as a Second Language for non-native speakers. Emphasis will be on developing students’ basic speaking skills to create a working vocabulary of up to 600 words. Simple grammatical structures and writing skills are introduced. Basic reading, writing and math skills required for entry into the workplace are also introduced. The instructor will assess, advise and guide students individually concerning the reading, writing, and math topics to review on their own between classes to prepare for the GED. Group instruction will be given on all subjects that group needs. Test-taking tips will be shared by a knowledgeable instructor, so students will have good test strategies and confidence. Official practice tests will be taken to check readiness for actual GED testing at approved testing locations.
