President finalists arrive - (6/9)

Candidates for the positions of Vice President
of Instruction and the Vice President for Student
Services/ Enrollment Management visited the college
this past week and interviewed with the president,
Dr. Carol Brown. The candidates participated
in forum during their visit, allowing students and
faculty to meet and question the applicants.
The process of narrowing down the applicants to
four candidates for each position involved a selection
committee. To begin the process, the committee
set criteria and those who met it were interviewed
by the committee and now a selected few are being
interviewed by the president.
The president helped decide the criteria for each
positions, including related experience and a passion
for the mission of a community college, said Reva
Rattan, interim Vice President of Student Services/Enrollment
Management.
For this specific position, the applicants were
narrowed down to four candidates, which are Dr.
Linda Gates Black, San Antonio College’s Dean
of Student Affairs; Dr. Magdalena Teja, Dean of
Student Services at Austin Community; Dr. Ernest
Pickens, former Grambling University’s Vice
President of Student Affair and Enrollment Management;
and Alton Scales has served most recently as Assistant
Vice President and Dean of Student Services and
Enrollment Management.
Concerning the Vice President of Instruction position,
its duties includes “the development and revision
of curriculum and textbook adoption,” according
to the job description. Currently, Allatia
Harris is serving as the Interim Vice President
of Instruction.
Concerning the difference in responsibilities between
an Interim Vice President and a permanent replacement,
there would not be any change.
The four candidates for the Vice President of Instruction
include Jonathan Gueverra, Dean for the School of
Business and Public Service at the State University
of New York in Canton; Dr. Suresh Tiwari,
Dean of Arts and Sciences at Hawkeye Community College
in Waterloo, Iowa; Serving as Provost
of the two of the largest campuses at Daytona Beach
Community College, Dr. Alex Kajtura; and Engineer
Brent Donham from Richland College.
No deadline has been set for the decisions.
“It’s a thoughtful process and an important
decision,” said Dr. Brown. “This
week was to create a process that to the best of
our abilities was inclusive, so that all of the
members of the Eastfield community had an opportunity
to meet the candidates.”
Even though it depends upon the person chosen,
the permanent Vice Presidents should be in the position
by September 1. |
