|Untitled, 2006, monoprint on paper|
Rosane Volchan O’Conor creates monoprints dominated by visual rhythm and movement. Printing from the same matrix without cleaning the plate, she pulls ghostly images and linear, seemingly microscopic forms to the surface of the paper, giving the sensation of forms and space moving throughout. This working process results in works that possess an almost infinite depth.
O’Conor writes: “I find in these monoprints echoes of my own stratum-my “Brazillianess” in those vivid earthy colors, organic forms and lyric movements, all emerging from the layers of exposure to music and science…”
Born in Rio de Janeiro, O’Conor now lives and works in Houston. Her work has been shown in Austin, Houston, New York and Rio de Janeiro. She has studied at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, the Conservatoire Royale de Musique in Brussels, Belgium, the Escola de Musica and the Art School of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
