Sound: a Project by Iris Bechtol.
September 2 - 26
Closing Reception/Gallery Talk: Friday, September 26, 12 p.m.
Iris Bechtol is primarily concerned with aspects of space: the vagueness of it, the emptiness of it, how we engage ourselves within it, how even the smallest of objects can interrupt it, or how light and sound often fill it. About her site specific installations--often involving minimal amounts of material and sound--she writes: "Each of the installations explores the relationship of [one's] body to space and viewer perceptions of specific objects as well as encouraging the viewer to pause for thought – to be in the moment instead of absent from it."
Iris is currently completing her Masters of Fine Art at University of Texas in Arlington. She is a former member and president of 500X Gallery, an artist cooperative space in Dallas, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of North Texas. Most recently she worked in the Art Department at Eastfield College as an Instructional Specialist before deciding to focus full time on her MFA work. She lives and works in Dallas.
