Gallery 219 at Eastfield College presentsBeau Comeaux: Recent Images
Beau Comeaux’s photographs of spaces and structures seem to be lit by a fading sun, or at night by the moon, and are sometimes combined with the ambient glow of surrounding street lamps and exterior lighting. The inhabitants of these spaces are never seen, but their presence is often felt, contributing to the sometimes unsettling sense of watching and being watched. All of this results in images that are both eerie and poignant. In Comeaux’s images space is skewed, somewhat compressed, and at times vertigo-inducing. Comeaux writes: I take ownership and control of domestic and semi-domestic spaces through acquisition and manipulation of digital captures. Focus, light, and color are twisted beyond their quotidian existence in order to transform the spaces depicted into fantasies wrapped in spatial ambiguity. Pulled into the fantastic spaces depicted, one often finds oneself unnerved and uncertain about exploring the spaces and their ominous overtones. Beau Comeaux received his BFA in Studio Art from Louisiana State University and an MFA in Photography from University of North Texas. He currently teaches at Richland College and the University of Texas at Dallas. He lives and works in Dallas and is represented by Marty Walker Gallery. Gallery 219 is located on the main floor of the Fine Arts building (Bldg. F). Park and enter at the Performance Hall on the west side of campus. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact David Willburn, Gallery Director, at 972-860-7162 or davidwillburn@dcccd.edu for additional information. |
