What Is Dual Credit?
- With Dual Credit, students earn high school credit and college credit at the same time. Credits can be earned in a number of academic areas, including math, science, English, government, economics, history, and more. Plus, tuition is waived with Dual Credit.
What Is Concurrent Enrollment?
- Concurrent enrollment provides the opportunity for qualified high school junior and senior students to earn college credit only.
Am I Eligible?
- High school students, age 16, enrolled in the 11th or 12th grade in good academic standing at a participating public, private, charter, or home school.
- Students with a recommendation from their high school counselor.
- Students admitted to the college and meet minimum test scores.

What Are The Minimum Test Scores?
- Students entering Eastfield must meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements. This can be done through taking either the Accuplacer or Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) and making passing scores in areas of reading, writing, and/or math. Students must have passing scores in specific areas based on course perquisites.
- Students may be exempt from testing by the following:
- TAKS Scores – 2200 on exit level TAKS in English Language Arts (with a writing score of 3) and/or Math.
- SAT Scores – 500 Critical Reading, 500 Math, and 1070 Composite
- ACT Scores – 19 Verbal, 19 Math, and 23 Composite
How Can I Enroll?
- Find out if your high school/secondary school participates in the Dual Credit Program. If not, there’s still the opportunity to take college courses as a concurrent student.
- Review the classes with your high school counselor that you would be eligible to take. This can vary from school to school.
- Get an application packet either from your high school or from the Eastfield College Dual Credit Program office (F204).
- Fill-out the application, making sure the High School Enrollment Form is signed and completed by you, your high school counselor, and your parent/legal guardian or parent. Also, if you’re under 18, complete the DCCCD Minor Student Form.
- Schedule an appointment with Sharron Wagoner or Jason Torres.
- Bring completed application, High School Enrollment Form, official high school transcript (with TAKS, ACT, and/or SAT scores if applicable), and Minor Student Form to your appointment.
How Can Dual Credit Benefit Me?
- Provides a head start on postsecondary core requirements
- Lowers cost of college (DCCCD waives tuition for Dual Credit)
- Extends the variety of classes available to high school students
- Allows access to college facilities/activities–such as, college library, fine arts performances, career development services, computer labs, and learning skills/tutoring services
- Provides greater opportunity for a coordinated, seamless education
- Serves as a “controlled” introduction to college life
- Allows for an easier transition to college
- Builds student confidence and self-esteem
How Does This Affect My Future?
- Simply put, you get college credit – that’s transferable to all Texas public colleges and universities and some out-of-state and private colleges – for classes taken while in high school. So, enter college with a head start on your academic career and eventual professional career.
