The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is an Assessment Testing Program. Texas state law requires that all entering students be tested in reading, writing and mathematics before enrolling in college-level courses in any Texas public college or university. TSI replaces the former TASP program.
What are the TSI approved tests?
Accuplacer (computerized test), Quick THEA (paper/pencil test) and Asset (paper/pencil test). Asset is only available through the Disability Services Office.
How do I know what TSI test to take?
This is determined by Advisement (C-120).
Accuplacer is available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday. Quick THEA is available by appointment only. Please check with the Testing Center for available times. Both tests require a testing referral from an advisor.
What is the cost for the TSI tests?
Accuplacer or Asset for initial assessment is included in your tuition. The charge for Quick THEA is $29.00.
When will I receive my test scores?
Accuplacer test scores will be available within 24 hours of testing. Quick THEA test scores are generally available within 7 – 10 working days.
If I do not pass a TSI approved test, can I still go to college?
Yes, assessment testing is used to determine whether or not students will need extra help (such as tutoring or developmental math, reading or writing courses) before they enroll in higher level courses.
What is the Compass Test?
The Compass Test is a test given to all students who wish to enroll in English for Speakers of Other Languages for credit classes.
When is the Compass Test given?
The Compass Test is given every Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Lindholm Test is the test given to all students who wish to enroll in English as a Second Language for Continuing Education classes.
When is the Lindholm Test given?
The Lindholm Test is given every Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
What are the hours of operation for the Testing Center?
The Testing Center is open for testing between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday. No tests will be issued to students after 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or after 4 p.m. on Friday.
What will I need to bring to take a test?
Have a picture ID (driver’s license, DPS ID, school ID, etc.) Have a #2 pencil.
What information is required to take a test?
You must know your course name, number, section number, and professor’s name (ex. HIST 1301, 4780, Holman). Know which test you are taking (ex. test 1, test 2, etc.)
