Steps to Applying for a Federal Stafford Loan
- Complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Ensure that all requested documents have been submitted and have met the Standards of Academic Policy (SAP) , and no blocks or outstanding balances on file (other than current term).
- Contact the office to attend a mandatory entrance loan counseling session, see dates below. Alternative methods of loan counseling delivery will be considered on a case-by-case basis for true distance education students. Telecollege/Distance Education ONLY students please contact our Financial Aid Office @ efcfava@dcccd.edu for further loan counseling information.
- During the session you will be provided with relevant information pertaining to applying and repayment of student loans.
- You will be provided the loan request form, at the conclusion of the loan entrance session, along with the necessary steps to accept your loan (if eligible).
- Students Loan applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours prior to the loan being certified and certified in attendance for 6 credit hours before the loan funds are fully disbursed.
- Eastfield College’s loan process can vary; expected determination time of a loan request will be within 4-6 weeks from submission of request. Once approved, accepted by student, approved by lender and guarantor; loan funds will be disbursed according to the students enrollment level and previous borrowing history. See disbursement dates below.
- Upon receipt of funds from lender, disbursements into student’s account can take anywhere from 7-10 business days. All students must have a disbursement method set up in eConnect to receive any remainder funds eligible, based on enrollment level and payment of tuition. - Loan only students (students who do not qualify for other means of aid, such as a pell grant or state aid/scholarships) are required to make payment arrangements in the cashier’s office. No loans will be certified with an outstanding balance for the term in which you are applying.
