Feb. 15 Fri. 11:15 a.m. Performance Hall Speaker Series: Nikki Giovanni. Reception following.
Nikki Giovanni is one of our most widely read American poets.  She is an advocate of civil rights and equality in education.  She speaks with great humor on her life and on the creativity in everything we do. The topic "African American History and Poetry in the African American Diaspora" will captivate you. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend.
Feb. 27 Wed. 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. S100/101 African American Read-In
Poetry, literature, song and dance.  Come celebrate the many contributions of African Americans.Guest presenters will read, sing and dance.  Students are encouraged to participate by reading passages from their favorite African American authors.  Contact the SPAR Office if you’d like to participate!

Hear this fantastic presentation on relationships and dating.  How do you know if it is right?  Do we make each other stronger and better individuals?  Are we headed in the same direction with the same goals?

Carol Clyde of SMU will present this program on Group and Team Dynamics.  Students get tips on how to get organized for group projects and how to define the role of each participant.

The evening social is a time for all evening students to enjoy a time of relaxation, free food, music, and door prizes.   Come to the PIT for a “come and go” social time, and relax either before or after class.

Eastfield College is to honored to host Ms. Sarah Weddington.  At the tender of age of 26, Ms. Weddington successfully argued the landmark Supreme Court case, Roe v. Wade.  She went on to become the first woman from Austin ever elected to the Texas House of Representatives, and then served as an assistant to President Jimmy Carter.  She is the author of  A Question of Choice, and currently teaches at the University of Texas.  A small reception will immediately follow her presentation. 
Mar 31 -Apr. 3     C135 & Gym Career Week
Career week is a week-long focus on helping students identify career choices that fit their particular strengths and likes as well as learn about interview, dress, and techniques for finding that right career choice in life.   In addition, a large community-wide Job Fair will take place Thursday in the campus gym. Come prepared to interview and fill out job applications. Call the campus Career Center at 972-860-8310 for further information.
Apr. 5 Sat. 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. TBA Community Service Day
Eastfield students are invited to volunteer for SPAR’s  “Community Service Day.”  Credit will be given for “Service Learning” hours or “Community Service” hours. There will be varied activities that students can sign-up to volunteer for that day. Most volunteer opportunities will be from 9:00am to 12:00noon and are either on-campus or at nearby locations. Come to the SPAR office, Rm. C-141 or call 972-860-7185 for more information.

Join SPAR in a celebration of cultures around the world.  Entertainment will be provided by a variety of individuals and groups that will bring each culture to life.  Come and celebrate our diversity.

Speaker Series: Billy Mills.
Billy Mills is the National Spokesperson for “Running Strong for American Indian Youth”. At the 1964 Olympics, Billy Mills shocked the world when he came from behind to win the gold metal in the 10k race.  He set a world record that no other American has achieved.   Mr. Mills is a noted author, speaker, and inspiration to all who face obstacles in achieving their dreams.  Call the SPAR office at 972-860-7185 for further information.

Our evening Coffee House will be an excellent opportunity to slow down your day.  Also, students will have the opportunity to learn about SPAR and the interesting programs we offer to the student community.

    Students who have won awards, scholarships, or special recognitions this year, will be honored at this invitation only ceremony. For further information, contact the SPAR office at 972-860-7185.
May 8 Thurs. 7:30 p.m. Mesquite Convention Center Eastfield Graduation
Eastfield’s graduation will be at the Mesquite Convention Center on Rodeo Drive in Mesquite. This annual graduation celebration is open to the public, and free of charge.
