Learning takes/lasts a lifetime.

To engage the learner in the process of learning, to encourage the learner to recognize that success relies solely on personal standards, to produce an environment conducive to discussion, opinion and involvement, to help learners realize and maintain their personal best-that is my goal as an art educator. Art is about discovery and exploration. Learners are encouraged to experiment and explore as they create: new things, new ideas and new opinions.

As I work to unpack the social, political and cultural context of my life and my artistic practice, I consider the following:

· The predicament of my place in the world.
· Theorizations of visual, social and sexual culture.
· Understandings and misunderstandings of the condition of my own life.
· Interpretations of lies, truths and beliefs about world and culture making.
· Loss, longing, absence, desire.

While giving consideration to the above, I use materials that speak directly to a need to constantly evaluate (and re-evaluate) certain cultural oppositions and artistic practices: straight/gay, masculine/feminine, life/death, happy/sad. Layers, both physical and metaphorical, are applied to the surface of my works. These elements are piled and arranged in ways that draw attention to my struggle to control things and my fear of screwing it all up.
