Nacha Cinceros

Por  Nellie Campobello

Near Chihuaha, is a great encampment (town).  Everything is quiet and Nacha weeps.  She is in love with the colonel whose last name is Gallardo, de Durango.

She was a female colonel and uses a pistol and has braids.

She kept weeping and was consoled by another old woman who accompanies the troops (usually a woman for hire).

Nacha was in her tent cleaning her pistol.  The other woman was braiding her hair, when the gun went off.

In another tent sat Gallardo at a table with another woman.

The shot that Nacha made from her tent was received by  Gallardo in the head and he fell dead.

They have killed Gallardo, Villa (apparently Pancho Villa) said, horrified

A man shot him
Shoot him
It was a woman, general
Nacha Ceniceros
Shoot her

She cried for her beloved and put her arms over her face.  She let her black hair hang down and took the volley.
She made a pretty figure, unforgettable for all that saw the fusillade  (shot).
Today there exists an anthill where they say she is interred.
