Learning Assistance Center Information for Faculty

The mission of the Learning Assistance Center is to give students the tools to become independent learners and to support faculty teaching.

Location:  C Building, Campus Center Mezzanine, C236

The Learning Assistance Center offers professional and courteous assistance to Eastfield students and provides support to Instructors.  We have qualified tutors in many subjects. Tutoring for writing and math are available whenever the LAC is open; tutoring of other subjects varies based on availability. Tutoring schedules are posted in the LAC and on the web site.

Services include:

  • Orientation tours
  • In-class orientations or presentations of LAC services and/or study skills
  • Computers for composition and computer-assisted instruction
  • Reference books such as dictionaries, thesauri, and handbooks
  • Instructional podcasts
  • Handout materials on a variety of topics
  • Records of student work in the LAC (upon request)
  • Study Skills workshops

Instructors may:

  • Bring students to the LAC for a tour/orientation.
  • Talk with the staff about specific assignments and/or students.
  • Provide staff with a copy of the syllabus and course assignments for reference.
  • Work with staff to provide better services, handouts, web resources, and/or podcasts.

If an instructor assigns take-home tests, please give the LAC staff a copy and let us know in writing (email) if tutors can assist students with test items. Otherwise, LAC staff will not assist with any tests.

Some instructors require students to work in the LAC or give extra credit for seeking assistance.  If an instructor needs documentation of students’ visits, please remind students they are responsible for asking LAC staff to stamp their papers at the time of service on the original copy to verify they received assistance. The stamp does not show evaluation of quality or correctness of work.
