Gustar + an infinitive means – to be pleasing .
The word gustar only conjugates into: gusta (singular) or gustan (plural) in the present tense.
Gustar is usually used with a pronoun to tell to whom something is pleasing.
| me – to me | ( a mí, me gusta) |
| te – to you | (a ti, te gusta) (de ti – of, from you) |
| le - to you, him, her, it | |
| nos – to us | (sin nosotros(as) - without us) |
| les - to you (plural), them, | a ellos, a ellas - les gusta(n) |
Pronoun + gustar + infinitive:
| Le gusta comer. | He(she, it) likes to eat. |
| Me gusta el café. | I like coffee. |
| Me gustan la leche y el café. | I like milk and coffee (plural) |
| ¿Qué te gusta hacer? | What do you like to do? |
| A María le gustan los dulces. | María likes candies. |
Past tense Preterito- forms of gustar – are gustó y gustaron
¿Te gustó el helado? Did you like the ice cream? Sí, me gustó mucho. Yes, I liked it a lot.
Only use plural gustar when what is pleasing is plural. Me gustan los tacos. (more than one taco.)
The Prepositional Phrase (The Personal “A”)
A + name, person, noun or pronoun + me, te, nos, le or les. gusta(n)
When le or les goes in front of gusta, you must use a propositional phrase …A Juan le gusta higado. Juan likes liver. A Pedro le gustan las hamburguesas (plural)
A María y a Ernestito les gusta montar la bicicleta (they like to ride the bicycle.)
Short answers --- ¿Te gust las sardinas? A, mí, no. (Note: When you use a preposition in front of mi, you must accent mí. (a mí, para mí, etc.)
Luis, a mí, no me gustan mucho, estos tacos.
A mí tampoco (I don’t either.) A mi, sí. (I do.).
me – for me, to me, myself
mí – object of a prepositional phrase, mí (¡A mí que! What is it to me!. ¡A mí no me importa! What´s it to me!
¿Te gustan las zanahorias? A mí no me gustan mucho. ¿Y tu?. A mí sí. Son muy buenas para los ojos.
When asking who likes something, begin with…¿A quién… ¿A quín le gusta pizza?
A todos nos gusta. (Who likes pizzas? We all like it.)

To really like something (encantar) -- A mí, me encanta el flan. A mí también.
I really like the flan. I do also.
Nos encantan los mariscos. We really like shellfish. Nosotros también. We do also.
Preterito - Past tense of encantar. Encanto – encantaron
A ella le encanto la cena. She loved the dinner
Me encantaron esas enchiladas . I really liked those enchiladas.
Gustaría or quisiera – Would like to do something.
Gustaría is generally used after the pronoun: me, te, le, nos, les
Me gustaría, te gustaría, le gustaría, nos gustaría, les gustaría
Quisiera is generally used after the pronoun: yo, tú, él, ella, nosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes.
Yo quisiera, tú quisieras, el, ella Ud. quisiera, nosotros quisiéramos; ellos, ellas, Uds. quisieran
