Grants Process
So you have an idea to improve programs or services? To create
new educational opportunities? To reach out to underserved populations?
Do you need external funding to implement your ideas? The RCD Office
follows a five step process:
|
Step
1
Call Us... |
You have your idea and need funding? Give us a call to
schedule a meeting. You may also submit an "Idea Abstract" online
or through campus mail.
To serve you better, think through your idea and use the Idea
Abstract as a guide. You are the expert on the content of any grant
or fundraising proposal. Securing external funds will only happen if your
idea is logical, feasible, clear, and well thought out. |
Step
2
Let's Meet... |
We will discuss your idea and then begin the research process to find
appropriate funding sources. Sometimes an idea may not be suitable for
grants to foundations or public funders, but may be more appropriate for
other fundraising techniques, such as direct mail, special events, direct
sales of merchandise, etc.
Use the "Gateway to Grants"
to get started in your own research on the latest grant funding opportunities
and services. If you find a program similar to yours at another institution
and you'd like to bring the model to Eastfield College, let us know. |
Step
3
Analyzing the Opportunity... |
Once appropriate funding sources are found, the funding agencies and
your program/project will be evaluated to determine if there is a match,
and if there is a fit with the College's institutional mission, goals,
and priorities. If there is no match for external funders or with feasible
fundraising techniques, you will then have the opportunity to modify the
program/project to improve the match or move on to another idea.
This process will involve input from the Project Director and the College's
Development Committee, which will be formed soon. |
Step
4
Time for Teamwork... |
Once a decision is made to proceed, the RCD office will work with you
to assemble a grants planning team. Depending on your needs, other resource
development projects currently in progress, the RCD Office will either write
a proposal from beginning to end, or edit a proposal from the Project Director.
The best approach is to have a grants planning team to divide up the labor.
The RCD Office will serve as the final editor to ensure grant uniformity
and flow, and adhereance to RFP guidelines.
Need help in developing and writing your proposal? The RCD Office will
offer grantwriting workshops throughout the year. The Office will also
provide one-to-one assistance in grantwriting. Check out the Grant
Writing page for more information and tips to help you with your proposal
development, and for information about upcoming workshops. |
Step
5
Wrap Up... |
Each proposal needs to be finished and in the RCD Office at least one
week before it is due to the funding agency. The Office will check the proposal
budget, make sure the proposal follows the RFP's guidelines, and obtain
all necessary signatures at the College administrator & District level. The
RCD Office will then forward the proposal to the District for submission
to the funding agency. |
