manual for one who is familiar with the operating procedure for the Hitachi S-3400

Variable Pressure Scanning Electron Microscope.

1) A prompt to open the PCSEM program should appear automatically after the Novell login. There is no password for PCSEM (just click "ok").

2) Have you ventilated the chamber, loaded the specimen, and evacuated the chamber?

3) Once in the PCSEM program window, have you clicked on the black box next to the "on" button (upper left) to expose the menu?

4) Is your filament saturated? Check for adequate emission current (at least ~150 at 15kv).

5) Is the information from the bar at the bottom of the screen embedded (green check mark) in your image file?

6) Is your specimen conductive or non-conductive? Please use these links to review appropriate settings for your specimen.
