at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas

Eastfield College and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center selected four outstanding students to participate in an unprecedented summer research program. The program pairs students with faculty research scientists to conduct research projects using major scientific instrumentation in the UTSW laboratories.

Katarina, Jordan, Funmi, and Dang were selected for UTSW's STARS Summer Research Program based on an evaluation of essays, faculty recommendation, academic records, personal statements and interviews.

KATARINA SOLBERG
Sophomore from Sweden - Pursuing a Degree in Biology
JORDAN McHONE
Sophomore from Rockwall, TX. - Pursuing a Degree in Biology
Katarina performed her summer research under the supervision of Dr. Julie Pfeiffer, Asst Professor of Microbiology at UT Southwestern's Center for Immunology. Dr. Pfeiffer's research uses hepatitis C and poliovirus to study viral genome evolution and drug resistant mutations and the effect of viral diversity on pathogenesis.
Jordan, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, performed his summer research under the supervision of Dr. Carole Mendelson, Professor of Biochemistry at UT Southwestern.
