October 19-21, 2006, the students attended floor presentations,
including several talks enrolled in the student competition
(a potential avenue for the future dissemination of research
performed in our program). They also mingled with TSM members,
collected promotional items from vendors, and took turns operating
the TM-1000 tabletop SEM.

"I was extremely inspired after going to the TSM
meeting on Friday. I had no idea that a scanning microscope
could offer so much assistance on so many topics.
The talk about frost rings was very informative. I was
so excited about what the microscope could do, I started
telling my children and they were getting very excited
about science also.
Thanks for the opportunity to explore another area of
science." Stephanie,
Ashley, and Jose
Sara Hays:"The
TSM meeting was an enlightening experience. I was able
to meet some scientists, see what the scanning electron
microscope could be used for, and I also had the opportunity
(for the first time ever) run a scanning electron microscope
myself. There were many items and booklets filled with
information about the field and the careers involved.
There were some very interesting lectures about spores
& allergens, frostrings in trees, circut boards
and leaf comparisons. I am very glad that I had the
opportunity to be involved in the TSM meeting and that
Eastfield will be able to enjoy and learn about the
scanning electron microscope."
