DEGREES & CERTIFICATES Eastfield College offers a two-year Social Work Generalist degree and the one year Social Work-Human Services Certificate. Both programs will prepare individuals to obtain employment as assistants to professional Social Workers and Counselors in a variety of social service organizations. Upon completion of the courses GERS 1304 and GERS 1307, students will be eligible for certification as a Nursing Home Activities Director. Mental Health & Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Certificate In conjunction with the Virtual College of Texas, Eastfield College now offers a completely online certificate for those wishing to specialize in mental health & substance abuse prevention. This certificate is intended for those who posses a related counseling license, i.e. LPC, LCSW, but wish to specialize in the prevention of substance abuse & mental health disorders with high risk populations, or for those who intend to pursue the LCDC, but want to concentrate on prevention. All courses may be used towards an Associates in Substance Abuse or Social Work. This includes the creation of a new course * which focuses on the dual-diagnosis of substance abuse with depression & other related mental health disorders. May assist social workers with developing, organizing, and conducting programs to prevent and resolve problems relevant to substance abuse, human relationships, rehabilitation, or adult daycare. LICENSURE Higher levels of licensure in the state of Texas include the following: Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker (LBSW) - a bachelor’s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited social work program and a passing score on the bachelor exam administered nationally by ASWB. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) - a doctoral or master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited social work program and a passing score on the master’s exam administered nationally by ASWB. The state board no longer licenses individuals at the associate level. All students seeking state licensure must transfer to a 4 year college or university which with a baccalaureate program in social work accredited by the CSWE.
