Deadline: June 1 Amount: $1,500 to $2,000 Scholarships are awarded to members of minority groups underrepresented in dental hygiene programs. Such groups include Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and men. Scholarships are based on financial need, academic achievement, and recommendations or references. Reserved for college students (except freshmen) studying dental hygiene. |

American Hotel Foundation Hyatt Hotels Fund for Minority Lodging Management Students 1201 New York Ave, NW, Suite 600 |
Amount: $2,000 This program provides awards to minority students pursuing degrees in the fields of hospitality, hospitality management, and hotel management. The scholarships are based on academic achievement and recommendations or references. Applicants must be attending or planning to attend a member college of the Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education. The member schools nominate students; direct applications are not available. Ask your schools deans office, financial aid office, or hotel/hospitality department chair for information on how to be nominated and apply for this award. |
American Library Association Spectrum Initiative Scholarship 50 E. Huron St. |
Deadline: March 1 Amount: $3,000 The American Library Association provides scholarships to 50 library science students each year. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of potential for success. Applications are accepted from students entering or enrolled in ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree programs who have completed less than 12 semester hours toward the masters degree through June of the year of application. Scholarships are based on academic achievement, work experience, leadership experience or potential, community service, and recommendations or references. Applicants must be citizens of the U.S. or Canada who are of minority descent. |

Deadline: February 23 Amount: $3,000 Limited to Hispanic, African American, or Native American freshmen planning a career in atmospheric science. Transcripts, standardized test scores, and a letter of recommendation are required. |

Deadline: January 15 Amount: varies Fellowships are awarded to minority students in nursing programs, on the basis of academic achievement. A variety of research grants and fellowships are available through the foundation. |

American Political Science Association Ralph Bunche Summer Institute 1527 New Hampshire Ave., NW |
Deadline: February 16 This five-week summer program is for undergraduate students who have completed their junior year. It is designed to introduce students to graduate study and encourage them to pursue a doctorate in political science. Scholarships are awarded to minority political science majors on the basis of academic achievement, recommendations or references, and a personal statement. |

Deadline: October 6 Amount: $6,000 This program provides six awards to minority applicants who are entering their first year of doctoral studies. Scholarships are awarded to political science majors on the basis of academic achievement, recommendations or references, and a personal statement. |

Deadline: February 1 Amount: $4,500 This summer research program includes a student stipend, lodging, travel, supplies, and other costs. Freshmen should have extensive high school research experience; seniors must not graduate before the start of the program. Applicants should have a strong interest in pursuing graduate work in the microbiological sciences. Limited to undergraduates studying microbiology or biology. |

Deadline: May 1 Amount: $15,000 This program provides three-year fellowships of $15,000 per year, not to be used for tuition or fees, to graduate students studying microbiology. Applicants must have completed their first year of a doctoral program. This fellowship is meant to assist with doctoral research costs and is intended to increase the number of underrepresented minorities completing doctoral degrees in microbiological sciences. Deadline: March 31 A total of $10,000 is available for financially needy students who want to study nutrition, physical education, or culinary arts in California. Open to minority students who have completed 12 to 15 units in a masters or doctoral program in nutrition, public health nutrition, or physical education in California, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Undergraduates are required to have completed 50 semester units in nutrition, physical education, or culinary arts program at an accredited college or university in California, with a minimum 2.5 GPA. |

The Scholarship Program of the Hispanic Women's Council, Inc., provides scholarships on a yearly basis to Hispanic women who demonstrate a need for financial assistance to continue their education. Applicants must be 25 years of age or older, residents of Los Angeles, and must express a desire to continue their studies at a two-year or four-year college, university, trade or vocational school. |

Deadline: April 27 Amount: $500 to $2,500 This program is for students whose major or principal area of study is advertising, architecture, environmental graphics, fashion design, filmmaking, fine arts, furniture design, graphic design, illustration, interior design, or landscape architecture. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, recommendations, and references. Students must show exceptional promise in your chosen field, have an interest in using their profession to give back to society, and be prepared to examine issues of cultural identity in submitted work. Applications from current high school seniors to graduate students are accepted. |

Applicants must be at least 50 percent Hispanic, must be active in their school or community, and must demonstrate financial need.
